What FESY does in Agriculture

Here are specific ways FESY is involved in agriculture and farming sectors:

  • Training in modern / sustainable farming
FESY provides vocational training including “modern farming” to help youth and women gain up-to-date agricultural skills.
  • Connecting youth & women to farming opportunities
They help link them to actual farming projects so the training isn’t just theoretical but has practical components. This improves productivity and creates income / jobs.
“My Farmer My Story” project

One example: a project called My Farmer My Story, where FESY in partnership with RP-IPRC Musanze and AFAAS uses a mentorship approach linking students with farmers. The goal is to make farming more professional, market-oriented and use more technological innovation in practice. The project saw an increase in maize productivity (average ~57%) among 40 small-scale farmers, plus hands-on experience for students.

Innovation & partnerships
    • They signed MoUs (e.g. with “Yielder”) for agricultural innovation.

    • FESY have a program with BK-Capital (Aguka Fund) to support youth entrepreneurship, which could include agribusiness,

Scaling Climate-Smart Agriculture
  • Expanded our environmental protection program to include agroforestry and land restoration.

  • Planted thousands of indigenous tree species to improve soil fertility and reduce erosion.

  • Integrated sustainable farming practices into all training modules to help farmers adapt to climate change.

Digital Innovation for Agriculture
  • Signed an MoU with Yielder to introduce digital advisory services for farmers.

  • Farmers gained access to real-time information on weather forecasts, markets, and sustainable practices via mobile platforms.

  • Youth innovators were supported to design solutions such as smart irrigation and farm record-keeping apps.
