Here are specific ways FESY is involved in agriculture and farming sectors:
One example: a project called My Farmer My Story, where FESY in partnership with RP-IPRC Musanze and AFAAS uses a mentorship approach linking students with farmers. The goal is to make farming more professional, market-oriented and use more technological innovation in practice. The project saw an increase in maize productivity (average ~57%) among 40 small-scale farmers, plus hands-on experience for students.
They signed MoUs (e.g. with “Yielder”) for agricultural innovation.
FESY have a program with BK-Capital (Aguka Fund) to support youth entrepreneurship, which could include agribusiness,
Expanded our environmental protection program to include agroforestry and land restoration.
Planted thousands of indigenous tree species to improve soil fertility and reduce erosion.
Integrated sustainable farming practices into all training modules to help farmers adapt to climate change.
Signed an MoU with Yielder to introduce digital advisory services for farmers.
Farmers gained access to real-time information on weather forecasts, markets, and sustainable practices via mobile platforms.
Youth innovators were supported to design solutions such as smart irrigation and farm record-keeping apps.
FESY emphasizes the importance of combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. By linking agricultural education with hands-on experience, FESY ensures best practices are implemented to maintain soil health and manage resources efficiently.
FESY advocates for sustainable practices like organic farming, crop rotation, and soil conservation. These methods enhance productivity while preserving environmental resources for long-term sustainability.
By facilitating the exchange of ideas among experts, students, and farmers, FESY encourages the adoption of new technologies like precision farming and water-saving techniques, fostering sustainability.
FESY provides youth and women with practical skills through training programs and hands-on experiences, improving their employability in the agricultural sector.
By promoting modern techniques and best practices, FESY supports higher productivity, which contributes to food security and economic stability in Rwanda.
FESY prepares individuals for various roles in agriculture, including farming, agro-processing, and agricultural management, fostering job creation and improving local economies.
