EBDS–Kigali: Enhancing Business Development Skills & Access to Finance

A 2-month capacity programme implemented by FESY in partnership with RTB/SDF to strengthen entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business planning, and access to finance for micro-business owners in Kigali.

Key Results (from project report)

Training & Practice

  • 684 participants trained and coached (target 700).
  • 25 training/coaching sessions delivered (planned 20).
  • 75% maintain financial records post-training.
  • 25% developed business plans during the project period.
  • 85% have operational bank or mobile money accounts.
  • 77% reported increased sales during implementation.

Formalization & Digital Presence

  • 78% progressed in business registration.
  • 30% established an online presence (mostly WhatsApp).
  • Modules delivered: entrepreneurship, planning, finance, marketing, branding, digital skills.

Savings Groups & Financial Inclusion

26 savings groups were formed across sectors; several progressed with legal registration and opened bank accounts with Equity Bank, GOSHEN Finance, and Umurenge SACCO.

  • Approach: governance, statutes, financial literacy, bank linkage.

Sewing Workshop – Kabeza, Kanombe

A 24-year-old seamstress who used the EBDS training to master budgeting, planning, and diversification. She improved profitability and is preparing for a SACCO expansion loan.

AHISHAKIYE Rose

Informal Trader – Kagugu, Kinyinya

A mother of three who doubled her monthly savings from RWF 5,000 to RWF 10,000 after adopting financial discipline techniques from the training.

Florent Uzazikomeza

Carpentry – Busanza, Kanombe

A 32-year-old carpenter who enhanced pricing, costing, and record-keeping skills. He is developing a full business plan for formalization.
