Health & Well-being at FESY

At Friends Effort to Support Youth (FESY), we believe that good health is the foundation of human development. Without physical, mental, and emotional well-being, young people and women cannot reach their full potential. Since our founding in 2016, we have made health one of our core priorities, focusing on awareness, resilience, and empowerment.

Our programs address the most pressing health challenges facing communities in Rwanda, from reproductive health to mental wellness and women’s rights. By equipping youth and women with knowledge and life skills, we are building healthier families and stronger communities.

Our Priorities in the Health Sector
Promote Health Awareness
  • We run health education campaigns on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS, and the prevention of early pregnancies.

  • Awareness on communicable diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and COVID-19 helps communities adopt better prevention practices.

  • By breaking the silence on taboo topics, we empower youth and women to make informed, responsible health decisions that reduce risks and promote healthier lifestyles.

Enhance Mental and Emotional Resilience
  • Mental health is often overlooked, yet it is critical. FESY provides psychological counseling and peer support spaces where participants can heal from trauma.

  • Through gender-based violence (GBV) awareness programs, we help survivors recognize their rights, seek justice, and rebuild confidence.

  • These efforts foster a more self-confident, resilient, and emotionally stable population, capable of overcoming life’s challenges.

Empower Adolescents
  • Adolescence is a sensitive stage of growth. Our programs guide young people through the physical, emotional, and social changes they experience.

  • Workshops and mentorship sessions help adolescents build self-esteem, discipline, and decision-making skills.

  • This prepares them to make positive life choices, reducing risky behavior and paving the way for healthier adulthood.

Support Women’s Health
  • Women, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds, are often most affected by poor health access and domestic challenges.
  • FESY provides awareness on nutrition, reproductive health, and the psychological effects of domestic violence.

  • By strengthening women’s knowledge and resilience, we enable them to better care for themselves, their children, and their communities.
