THRIVE 2030 PROJECT

FESY (Friends Effort to Support Youth) is contributing to the implementation of THRIVE 2030 (Transforming Households Resilience in Vulnerable Environments), a long-term initiative focused on helping vulnerable households build sustainable livelihoods, strengthen economic resilience, and move toward lasting self-reliance.

Through the project, FESY supports communities to access savings and financial services, strengthen household income-generating activities, develop sustainable value chains, and improve their capacity to respond to economic and climate-related shocks. Particular attention is given to strengthening community-based groups and supporting producers to move from subsistence activities toward more productive and market-oriented livelihoods.

The project also promotes women’s participation, household financial resilience, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment, enabling families to invest in productive activities, manage risks, and create better opportunities for their children. By connecting households to appropriate skills, financial resources, markets, and livelihood opportunities, THRIVE 2030 seeks to reduce dependency and support sustainable pathways out of poverty.

PROJECT SUMMARY

THRIVE 2030 (Transforming Households Resilience in Vulnerable Environments) is a long-term economic empowerment initiative implemented in partnership with World Vision Rwanda, supporting vulnerable households through poultry farming and value-chain development. The project aims to help smallholder farmers increase household income, strengthen food and nutrition security, and build sustainable livelihoods through improved poultry production and market access.

Key Objectives

  • Increase poultry productivity and household income through improved breeds, feeding, health management, and modern farming practices.
  • Strengthen poultry producer groups to improve access to inputs, finance, technical support, and collective marketing.
  • Develop the poultry value chain by connecting farmers with input suppliers, buyers, markets, and other value-chain actors.
  • Promote financial inclusion through savings groups, financial literacy, and access to appropriate financial services.
  • Build farmers’ business and technical skills in poultry production, enterprise management, record keeping, and marketing.
  • Promote women and youth participation in poultry farming and related economic opportunities.
  • Strengthen household resilience and self-reliance by supporting farmers to build productive assets and establish sustainable poultry-based livelihoods.

What's our Main Intervention ?

FESY aims to strengthen poultry farming as a sustainable source of income by equipping farmers and producer groups with improved knowledge and practices in poultry husbandry, feeding, housing, disease prevention, flock management, record keeping, and collective marketing. The intervention seeks to help farmers transition from small-scale poultry keeping to productive, profitable, and commercially viable enterprises.

Improved Poultry Production

FESY supports farmers to adopt better poultry husbandry practices, including appropriate housing, feeding, hygiene, flock management, and disease prevention. These practices help reduce poultry losses, improve productivity, and enable farmers to maintain healthier and more productive flocks.

Poultry Health & Management

The intervention promotes proper vaccination, disease prevention, biosecurity, and routine flock monitoring. Farmers are supported to identify and address common poultry health challenges early, reducing mortality and improving the overall performance of their poultry enterprises.

Poultry Enterprise Development

FESY supports farmers to manage poultry farming as a business through basic record keeping, production planning, cost management, and enterprise monitoring. This helps participating households make informed decisions and gradually expand their poultry activities.

Producer Group & Market Development

Farmers are encouraged to work through producer groups to strengthen collective production, purchasing, and marketing. The approach improves farmers’ ability to access inputs, reach buyers, negotiate better markets, and develop stronger links across the poultry value chain.

Poultry Production

Support farmers with improved poultry husbandry, housing, feeding, hygiene, flock management, and disease prevention to increase productivity and reduce losses.

Poultry Health Management

Promote vaccination, biosecurity, disease prevention, and regular flock monitoring to maintain healthy and productive poultry.

Poultry Enterprise Development

Strengthen business skills in poultry production, including record keeping, production planning, cost management, and enterprise development.

Producer Groups & Market Linkages

Strengthen collective production and marketing while connecting farmers with input suppliers, buyers, and other poultry value-chain actors.

"The project is motivated by three main challenges"

Low poultry productivity and high production losses: Many smallholder farmers face challenges related to poor housing, inadequate feeding, limited disease prevention, and weak flock management, resulting in low productivity and high mortality.
Limited commercialization of poultry farming: Poultry keeping is often undertaken at a small household scale, with limited business planning, record keeping, aggregation, and access to reliable markets. This reduces the income potential of poultry enterprises.
Limited technical and market capacity: Farmers and producer groups often have limited access to specialized poultry knowledge, business support, quality inputs, and strong market connections, making it difficult to expand and sustain profitable poultry businesses.
Our Expectations

The project is expected to contribute to more productive and profitable poultry enterprises among participating households. By improving poultry management, strengthening producer groups, and developing market linkages, FESY aims to increase poultry productivity, reduce losses, and create more reliable sources of household income.

The intervention will also strengthen farmers’ capacity to manage poultry as a business, enabling them to make better production and investment decisions. Through continued technical support, group strengthening, and market engagement, the project seeks to establish sustainable poultry enterprises that can continue generating economic benefits beyond the project period.
